Stanislao Marco Spina Percussionist Biography

Stanislao Marco Spina was born in 1986. Under the supervision of Maestro Fulvio Panico, Stanislao graduated with Honours and Honorable Mention from the Conservatorium “Tito Schipa” in Lecce. In Italy, with Filippo Lattanzi, Danilo Grassi and Edoardo Giachino (National Academy of Santa Cecilia), in Germany with Marta Klimasara, professor at the Stuttgarter Musikschule and in Austria with Ulrike Stadler from the Universität für Musik & darstellende Kunst of Graz Stanislao Spina mastered his skills. From the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, from the Ministry of Public Education of Italy, and from the European Union, Stanislao Spina gained several scholarships thanks to his academic achievements.

In 2009, Stanislao gave his solo debut with the Orchestra “Tito Schipa” of Lecce performing the concert for percussion and orchestra by D. Milhaud , conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta. Then Stanislao started his concert career, performing pieces of J. Schwantner, A. Thomas, S. Reich, T. Ichiyanagi, I. Xenakis and H. Cowell. Later, Stanislao Spina decided to approach Baroque and Classical music of J.S. Bach, M. Marais, D. Scarlatti and W. A. Mozart who studied in depth with Emilia Fadini and Mariagrazia Lioy.
Among the many awards in recognition of his work: the first Prize in the music contest “LAMS, city of Matera”, the first Prize in the “Premio Nazionale delle Arti 2009” (Arts National Award, Cuneo – Roma), the third Prize in the “International Marimba Competition 2011” (Cordoba), the first Prize in the international music contest “Paolo Serrau” (Filadelfia) and the participation in the final phase of the “Southern California Marimba Competition 2014” (Los Angeles).

He worked with several orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the “Orchestra Nazionale Di Santa Cecilia” ,“Orchestra dell’Opera di Parma”, “Magna Grecia Orchestra”, “Tito Schipa Orchestra”, “Ensemble Ritratti 2010 – Monopoli”, the “Ensemble ‘900 of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia”, “Wood Percussion Droops”, “Next Time Ensemble “ and “Locomotive Percussion Orchestra”, performing in Italy (Auditorium Parco della Musica), Spain (Euskalduna Palace) and France (Cellier Pontifical).

He published with the Stone Record label Baroque Marimba , a CD with music of J.S. Bach and Laudate Tristitia , a CD with music of baroque composers.

Stanislao Marco Spina is professor of percussion instruments at the Conservatorium “Tito Schipa” in Lecce.
